Children at Jenner Park Primary School are benefiting from new play equipment that has increased opportunities to learn in the playground – following a refurbishment to both, the school’s main playground and its special needs unit area.

The equipment was manufactured and installed by Sovereign Play Equipment and includes a vast selection of sensory play facilities, activity panels, adventure climbing equipment, colourful safety surfacing and artificial grass.

Julie Pearce, Area Manager at Sovereign commented: “The school wanted to undergo a refurbishment to its play areas with the aim to increase opportunities for learning outside the classroom – while supporting inclusive play for all. The new play facilities have been carefully selected to provide sensory experiences and physical activity to all children, while supporting social and cognitive development.”

David Morris, Headteacher at Jenner Park Primary School comments: “The children and staff were delighted when the playgrounds in the Nursery and Resource Base were completed and the children could finally be let loose on the equipment they had watched being built.  They were not disappointed and made the most of the time taken by the School Council to collate pupil ideas, the effort put in by the staff and the expertise of the Sovereign installers in creating our vision.”

In the main playground, the range of new facilities to support inclusion and learning outside the classroom includes a water flow play panel, mud kitchen, timber play hut, adventure play den, chalkboard activity wall panel, artificial grass and colourful wetpour surfacing.

In the special needs unit area – with the objective of zoning the play space for inclusive play – Sovereign installed an assortment of sensory play and activity facilities – including a sand table, mud kitchen, water flow play panel and assortment of creative, educational and music activity panels. A Foxtail adventure tower was installed to promote active play, alongside a Play Hut to provide a space for socialising, outdoor picnics and shade. This was followed by the installation of a Storytelling Chair, an ideal addition to an area for children to sit and listen or tell their own stories.
