Children at Priestsic Primary School in Sutton, Ashfield are celebrating after the completion of a £140,000 playground refurbishment.
The project, carried out by play equipment specialist, Sovereign, has transformed the school’s grounds into a stimulating and challenging play environment for pupils. The new facilities include a range of adventure and imaginative play equipment that encourage children to get involved with active play, while supporting their physical development and the practice of creative and social skills.
Andy McKay, Area Manager at Sovereign commented: “We worked closely with the teachers at Priestsic Primary School to ensure the chosen equipment fulfilled many aspects of physical education and outdoor learning.”
The project was carried out in two phases. Phase one included the installation of a large adventure trail and a stage area for Key Stage 2 pupils to perform and express their creativity. Seating areas and the installation of an outdoor classroom area were also fitted for outdoor learning opportunities. An issue of flooding on the main play area was also resolved with the installation of a sports court area onto a stone base to improve drainage.
During phase two, a shaded seating area was installed for Key Stage 1 pupils to benefit from outdoor learning, along with a second adventure trail and stage. This was accompanied by a range of imaginative play facilities to encourage role play and colourful safer surfacing to bring the areas alive.
“The children are really enjoying playing on the new equipment,” commented Mrs Riley and Mrs Stamp, joint Headteachers at Priestsic Primary School. “We always aim to provide opportunities for our children to reach their full potential, inside and outside the classroom – and the new facilities are already stimulating play and engagement at playtimes.”
