Matlock Farm Park in Derbyshire provides a great day out for the whole family. Set in the rural countryside, it offers a range of activities for children and plenty of animals to see. They have now completed an extensive new development of the brand new Rainforest Play Barn.
The Issue
Matlock Farm Park wanted to create a purpose-built adventure play barn which would cater for both children and parents. The idea was to combine an exciting and dynamic play area for children with a comfortable place for parents to enjoy the new restaurant facilities.
The Resolution
Sovereign have previously provided Matlock Farm Park with outdoor play equipment, but now a new challenge was proposed to design Sovereign’s first bespoke indoor play area. As part of the new Rainforest Play Barn, an imaginative jungle theme was requested to transform the space into a captivating place for children to explore.
The Process
After receiving architect plans from the client, work began on turning their vision into a reality. Area Manager Andy McKay was on hand to liaise between Matlock Farm Park and Sovereign’s design department, where Designer Paul Jenkins worked hard to create breath-taking 3D images that brought the project to life.
Further site meetings took place and some revisions were made, but between Andy, Installations Manager Gary Bridge and the Matlock Farm Park team the final design was decided and installation soon began.
The Installation
Installation commenced and the space soon started to transform. The team worked tirelessly to meet the completion deadline. The Rainforest Play Barn opened on time following successful completion of the works by the Sovereign team.
The Results
The bespoke timber play structure provides the perfect high-level adventure for children to play and explore. With a myriad of nets, climbers and slides, endless fun can be enjoyed whilst parents look on from the ground. The vibrant wetpour design includes an array of animals and sets the jungle scene perfectly while also offering a safe surface for play. Andy McKay commented that “the Sovereign equipment looks fantastic and is complimented by the stunning artwork that Matlock Farm Park have included.”

We like to be a little pioneering at Matlock Farm Park and Sovereign took this on board to give us a unique indoor design. We changed our minds on the design several times and altered things mid construction, which was never any problem for Sovereign and they accommodated us wherever they could.
The quality of their craftsmanship, materials and indeed their finished products are first class. We look forward to working with them again in the future.
