Young children at a playgroup in Broughton Moor, Cumbria, are enjoying their preschool garden after an installation by Sovereign Play Equipment has made it more practical for under 4s.

Cuddly Koalas Preschool now has a safety surface pathway that stretches from the top to the bottom of the garden, along with a colourful seating area for socialising and story-telling. The installation has made the outside space more functional and accessible for the young children that use it.

Katy Huntington, play consultant at Sovereign explains: “Previously made up of a grassy area, the outside area was not suitable for all-year use. There was also a lack of seating with nowhere for children to sit down when at the bottom of the garden.

“We created designs for an improved yard with small, but practical additions that would give children more use of the garden and its play facilities. A pathway allows young children to run, bike or trike to the end of the garden without getting wet and muddy, whereas the addition of seating creates a place for children to sit outdoors, listen to stories and socialise.”

Long-lasting, slip resistant and comfortable to walk on, the pathway is made of rubber mulch. The clever surfacing comes in a variety of colours and absorbs impact from trips and falls. The material is also extremely porous, making it an ideal all-weather surface with good drainage properties. Opening the garden up to more uses, the new colourful seating area has been made with Sovereign’s imaginative toadstools.

Bryony Nicholls, Manager at Cuddly Koalas Preschool commented: “The service we have received from start to finish has been fantastic. I highly recommend using Sovereign and we will be using them again in the future.”
